Does Mourinho still have the answers? Credit: ESPN FC |
Jose Mourinho's tenure at Manchester United has not started as he would have hoped, with the Portuguese manager setting unwanted records. After a seemingly comfortable start to the Premier League season, the Red Devils have now lost their past three matches: the loss at Watford is their first loss at Vicarage Road in 30 years.
On a personal level, Mourinho has lost 16 of his past 34 matches, after having lost the same amount in his previous 111 games in charge. Excuses are unavailable after spending £149m in the transfer market, where further stagnant results would place Mourinho in a comparable situation to last year.
His tactical aptitude has perhaps gone awry. Pogba's presence has been lacking, with the world's most expensive footballer hardly living up to his £89m price tag. Coupled with the continued inclusion of the ageing Rooney, Manchester United is toothless in comparison to its storied past
His brazen 'us against the world' attitude may have fared well for him in the past, but with the financial and tactical freedom he has been offered, it appears an early exit could once again be possible for the most controversial man in football.
